3.8 Orthognathic Surgery Orthognathic surgery corrects conditions of the jaw related to structure, growth, malocclusion or trauma. Categories: - BSSO – Bilateral Sagital Split Osteotomy (Mandible) - Genioplasty – Chin augmentation (Mandible) - Le Fort 1 – Osteotomy (Maxilla) - SARPE – Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (Maxilla) These procedures require the Sterile Technique. They are typically performed under General Anesthesia in a hospital setting. The patients are often admitted for a night or two. Armamentarium: OMS Tray (remove elevators and forceps if not extracting teeth) Irrigation & Suction Tray Disposables: Anesthetic Sterile Barriers (light handle, etc) Sterile Drape Surgical Site Prep Gauze Saline Scalpel Blade Suction Tubing Sutures Add: Magnetic Drape, Mallet, Hemostats, Wire Twisters (2), Wire Cutter, 25G Wire Surgical Splint and Kidney Basin (with betadine), Bone Plates and Screws, Screw Drivers, Plate Benders Caliper (Maxilla) Depth Gage (Mandible) POWER: Drill and Saw System Drill Reciprocating Saw Oscillating Saw Latex Elastics (in betadine) SARPE Add: Expansion Key Post Op Panorex and Ceph (Double Jaw and Genioplasty) - Post Operative Orthognathic Surgery instructions
