7 Pressbooks Publication Examples

7 Pressbooks Publication Examples Pressbooks now has a Pressbooks Directory where all publicly available PressbooksEDU publications can be found. The use and adaptation of these publications is flexible depending on what works best for your students, faculty, or staff. You can choose to use parts or all of an original publication as it is in your course or department, or to adapt an existing publication to better suit your needs. Another avenue for creating Pressbooks OERs that is being explored is co-creating course or topical resources with students. In this instance, student-centred project-based learning is a key aspect within a course’s curriculum. Students learn about research, trustworthy sources, copyright and Creative Commons licensing, scholarly publishing, and collaboration. The instructor facilitates throughout the process, and the project’s end result is a course resource or textbook. Some resource and example links are below: - Pressbooks: Your Springboard to Interactive Learning [YouTube video] is a recording of an Open Education Symposium 2021 session on Pressbooks publications and their use at the University of Alberta. - Learning to Learn Online Open Educational Resource (OER) for Students and Instructors is a blog about a Pressbooks project created by students at the University of Windsor. - “Using Pressbooks to Create Collaborative Open Textbooks” was created by Jordanne Christie from Technology Tools for Teaching in Higher Education, The Practical Handbook Series. - A Guide to Making Open Textbooks with Students was edited by Elizabeth Mays and provides several examples of student Pressbooks project assignments. - Open Pedagogy Notebook: Sharing Practices and Building Community includes examples of open pedagogy and how it is being implemented in the classroom.
