Cardiovascular System: Heart Blood Flow

Cardiovascular System: Heart Blood Flow Overview Maintaining proper blood flow, direction, and pressure ensures effective blood circulation to the body’s organs and tissues. Veins carry blood to the heart, while arteries transport blood from the heart. In the lungs, the blood discards carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen, returning oxygen-rich blood to the heart to then be pumped to all the body tissues. Learning Objectives By the end of this chapter, students will be able to: - describe the pathway the blood takes through the two circuits: Pulmonary and Systemic. - name all the structures involved in the two circuits including the major blood vessels, heart chambers, and heart valves.
