Goals
Short-Term Goal: Improving Basic Nursing Knowledge
I will improve my comprehension of nursing principles by the end of the fall semester of 2024 by doing all the given readings and practice problems from the course materials and by studying at least twice a week, either alone or with classmates. I will use weekly self-tests to see how I am doing, and I want to get at least 85% on all my foundational nursing school tests.
Specific: Concentrated on learning the fundamentals of nursing.
Measurable: Completed readings, activities, study sessions, and self-tests will be used to monitor progress.
Achievable: With the resources and study opportunities at hand, this is doable within the semester.
Relevant: Success in upcoming clinical courses and professional practice requires a solid understanding of nursing basics.
Time-bound: By the conclusion of the fall semester of 2024, the objective will have been accomplished.
Reasoning: Gaining a firm grasp of nursing principles will lay the groundwork for more complex coursework and clinical expertise.
Long-Term Goal: Improving Communication Capabilities
My goal is to improve my communication skills by the time the second semester ends in the winter of 2025. To achieve this goal, I commit to actively engaging in three patient-centered interactions during each clinical rotation this semester. After each interaction, I will provide a brief reflection in my journal, with a focus on the areas in which I excel, those in which I struggle, and those in which I could develop.
Specific: Concentrated on creating efficient communication strategies.
Measurable: Three conversations with the patient focused on the clinical placement, with journal entries of thoughts.
Achievable: Clinical placements offer numerous opportunities to refine communication abilities.
Relevant: Excellent communication is essential for establishing rapport, obtaining data, and providing medical attention.
Time-bound: By the conclusion of the winter semester of 2025, the objective will have been accomplished.
Reasoning: To build trust and enhance patient outcomes, effective communication is a vital nursing skill. As I advance in the program, achieving this long-term goal will improve my capacity to interact with patients, coworkers, and the healthcare team.
