24 Concurrent Enrollment (or why do I have an extra comp section?)

24 Concurrent Enrollment (or why do I have an extra comp section?) SLCC offers concurrent enrollment (CE) classes in two ways– students can take the class as administered by their high school teacher at their high school, or they can enroll in a section of composition taught here at SLCC by our faculty. It is the second group that can affect our composition course enrollment. Some sections of composition are designated as concurrent enrollment sections, and may have up to 12 HS students register for that class. In your MySLCC, it will look like you have two sections of a class instead of one– one will have an apparent cap of 25, and the other a cap of 12. The cap for these combined sections remains at 25 total, so for instance if you have seven CE students register for your composition course, then there are 18 seats available to the general SLCC population. The CE students are treated no differently than any other student in the course. Importantly, FERPA applies to these students just like it does traditional college students, no matter their age. Truth be told, I often forget who the CE students are in my course, because the expectations for these students is the same as their peers.
