Communication Learning Outcome: Develop a healthy and thorough understanding of the Foundational Principles of Cyber Security and the CIA Triad and apply those principles and concepts to a fictional business and how the businesses data and information will be kept secure. Standards of Learning: CTE Verso Competency’s 6302-34 Describe Cyber Security 6302-35 Define Information Assurance 6302-36 Define the Critical Factors of Information Security 6302-42 Discuss National or Industry Standards/Regulations that relate to cyber security Materials: Computers with internet access. Activities: Activity 1 – Overview of the Foundational Principles of Cyber Security and the CIA Triad. Activity 2 – Explanation of rules for the card game Cyber Realm Activity 3 – Groups play the card game Cyber Realm to develop understanding and mastery of the Foundational Principles of Cyber Security Activity 4 – Explanation of expectations and rules for Cyber Security Breakout Game Activity 5 – Students are broken into small groups and engage in playing the Cyber Security Breakout Game Enrichment/Follow-up: Reflection Piece – Students will be organized into small groups and will be tasked with coming up with a small business they would like to own and operate. They must then decide how they will maintain the data and information securely applying a number of the Foundational Principles of Cyber Security. They will present their ideas by creating a commercial “selling” how their business keeps their data and information secure. Assignment Rubric: Cybersecurity_Breakout_Game_Rubric Sample of Completed Assignment (indicating mastery) Due to the nature of the assignment it is difficult to provide an example of a completed assignment showing mastery. As the students work through the first two activities, the Cyber Realm Card Game and the Breakout Game, teams will earn points. Obviously more points means better score.
