I want to use a variable in a string. I have tried to do it many times, but it is only getting the variable name.

<head>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.7.2.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
       $(function(){
          $("a").click(function(){
           var id= $(".id").html();
           $('.html').html("<div class='new' id=+id+>jitender</div>")
             });
       });
    </script>
</head>
<body>
   <div class="wrap">
      <a href="#">Make Html</a>
      <div class="html"></div>
      <div class="id">first</div>
   </div>
</body>

    var id= $(".id").html();
    $('.html').html("<div class='new' id='"+id+"'>jitender</div>");
