Is there any difference between these solutions?

Solution 1:

  console.log(value);

...and Solution 2:

function doSomething(id) {
  var value = document.getElementById(id).value;
  console.log(value);
  //...
}
<input id="theId" value="test" onclick="doSomething(this.id)" />
