I am having issues getting this cast to work.

The compiler tells me value aNumber is not a member of object Char

def runCastTest() {  
  val aNumber = 97  
  val aChar = (Char)aNumber

  println(aChar) // Should be 'a'  
}

What am I doing wrong?
