[^/]+ explanation in htaccess

I have this htaccess code

RewriteRule   ^/([uge])/([^/]+)$  /$1/$2/

But I couldn't really understand what does [^/]+ do? I've been searching this on Google for awhile, but I couldn't get what I wanted.
