32 6.1 Introduction With the growing presence of assistive technologies (AT) in classrooms, it is important to examine the impact they have on instructional practices and students comprehension. In my Open Educational Resource (OER) chapter, I will explore the impacts of assistive technologies in elementary literacy studies. Literacy development in children serves as a foundational skill that is necessary to acquire. Therefore, it is imperative to study the impacts of assistive technologies in elementary literacy to increase academic success in the subject. In the following sections, I will outline research detailing the benefits, challenges, and suggestions for effectively implementing assistive technologies in literacy instruction.
