My Belief Statement and Core Values
I believe in treating others with the same respect, kindness, and understanding that I hope to receive. I approach every interaction with empathy, an open mind, and a genuine willingness to see things from others perspectives, allowing for meaningful and compassionate connections. As a nursing student, I plan to integrate these values into my clinical practice, with the goal of becoming a compassionate, self-governing registered nurse dedicated to providing holistic, patient-centered care.
Respect
I value respect because it has been instilled in me by my parents since childhood. My parents taught me that respect for others creates mutual trust and understanding, leading to meaningful connections. I believe mutual respect is essential for effective collaboration, as it allows open, positive, and constructive communication with others. My parents also taught me the importance of self-respect, prioritizing my well-being and caring for my needs. Self-respect for me includes self-care practices and setting personal and professional boundaries. Having self-respect helps prevent me from burnout and loss of motivation.
Diligence
I am dedicated to being diligent in everything I do, aiming to produce quality work and make meaningful contributions. I hold myself to high standards, continuously reflecting on my skills and refining them when needed. In nursing, staying diligent will allow me to remain self-aware. By understanding my strengths and limitations, I can stay focused, make informed decisions, and respond effectively to patient needs, ensuring safe and compassionate care. I value diligence because it goes beyond achieving outcomes and is about the consistency and effort given regardless of the challenges I may encounter.
Altruism
I value the principle of mitzvah as a commitment to selfless acts of kindness that benefit the greater good. Though rooted in religion, my view is less religious; I view mitzvahs as a moral duty to make a positive impact through compassion, generosity, and meaningful contributions to others. I was born into Judaism, and it has made me value selfless kindness, showing me how even small altruistic acts can make an impact on someone else’s life. I consider altruism the foundation of my moral values, guiding me to engage in selfless acts that contribute to the well-being of others.
Empathy
I value empathy because it allows me to see things from another’s point of view and build emotional understanding. Empathy in nursing is a core value as it ensures a holistic approach to care that considers all aspects of the patient’s well-being. By being empathetic I will be able to make connections with the patients that will help support my individualized nursing care plan. For example, by understanding a patient’s perspectives without judgment, I can foster effective communication, which leads to better collaboration and ultimately enhances the quality of care. This approach not only strengthens relat
