Move the wood to a well-ventilated area, if possible.. Put on a respirator mask, rubber gloves, and other safety gear.. Use a drop cloth and painter's tape to cover areas you won't treat.

Apply a thick coat of the chemical using a nylon brush.
Wait at least 10 minutes for the chemical to soak into the finish.
Remove the finish using a plastic putty knife along the wood's grain.

Wash the wood with soap and water to remove any remaining product.
Test the wood if you're unsure what kind of finish you have.
