Treat dry fondant with oil before you put it on.
Prepare a small piece of fondant.
Coat your fingers or an icing knife in oil or shortening.
Rub the fondant patch into the surface.
Dust with confectioner's sugar (optional).
Put your fondant scraps into a bowl.
Add a few drops each of water and vegetable oil.
Mix until it resembles a paste.
Add the paste to a piping bag.
Pipe over the crack.
